My artistic background has always led me to be curious about people and the world around me. After graduation, I took a job as a mental health worker for a crisis intervention team and I became interested in issues faced by people seeking treatment as well as the complexity of mental illness and the availability of treatment services. A psychologist working there invited me to take a job at the Massachusetts Treatment Center as the Assistant Coordinator of the Community Transition Program. There, I worked closely with the treatment team who managed the care of the civilly committed patients. While this position had its challenges (working with sex-offenders in a medium security prison), I believe that treatment helps reduce the rate of recidivism and it was an incredible learning experience for me.
Since that time, I have been fortunate to have lived in Bulgaria, as a Peace Corps Volunteer, where I developed programs, wrote grants and created opportunities for others that have had a lasting impact. When I returned to the states (with my Bulgarian street dog), I joined the Office of Development and Alumni Relations Team at Dartmouth Medical School/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for their ambitious $250M Transforming Medicine Campaign. After we reached our goal, I moved to Golden where I coordinated exhibitions, education and public programming for Foothills Art Center. Here at UC Denver, I am excited to work with Dr. Miller and the ACT team. More than this, I am honored to play a role in this mission to improve health care for patients by integrating medicine and behavioral health treatment approaches.
