The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado is seeking a Director of Medical Student Education to provide leadership to the family medicine pre-doctoral program, including serving as the rural and community care (RCC) Block Director, and being involved in clinical care.

The Department of Family Medicine is an academic unit of the University of Colorado Denver, School of Medicine. The Department develops and provides health care, educates medical students and post-doctoral trainees in primary medical care, trains residents and fellows, conducts primary care research and engages with the community to improve healthcare.

The MSE Director formulates strategies for increasing student recruitment into family medicine programs, improving curriculum, cultivating preceptor relations and collaborating with community and campus partners.

The clinician educator (MD or DO) in this position provides strategic direction for the program and represents the Department within the School of Medicine and with other related entities. The Director will oversee the RCC Block, including curriculum development, supervise interest groups, including directing the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG), and be responsible for the development and administration of the program’s budgets.

Specific to the RCC Block, duties include: all aspects of block orientation, curriculum and program development and innovation, student assessment and grading, identifying and assisting students experiencing difficulties, supervising support staff that assist with clerkship responsibilities, and collaborating with the ACC Block Director and other entities.

The approximate breakdown of responsibilities is as follows:

- Serve as Rural and Community Care (RCC) Block Director, including curriculum development, preceptor development/relations, student development: 50%.
- Strategic planning, budgeting, advising students, facilitating interest groups, MSA mentoring, supervision of MSE faculty/staff: 30%
- Clinical care/precepting/supervision: 20%.
