Begun in 2009, the now annual Microbiology Student Retreat is held at the YMCA of the Rockies in beautiful Estes Park, Colorado. Each year we assemble as a community to talk about the program, discuss our research projects and get to know the incoming class. This event provides a low stress environment to get to know other students and post-docs as well as to familiarize one's self with the research happening in the department. The slide-show above is a collection of photographs taken over the last few years.
The retreat is currently funded through a combination of: departmental sponsorship, corporate sponsorship, private donations and fundraising. In the future, the retreat will be funded by the graduate school.
We have been fortunate enough to be able to offer some small awards for: Best Poster, Best Spoken Presentation for A Rotation, Best Non-Rotation Spoken Presentation and Best Overall Presentation. In 2011 these awards were won by Daphne Cooper and Kristina Stoermer (tie) for Best Poster, Katie Delaney for Best Spoken Presentation for A Rotation and Laura Griffin for Best Non-Rotation Spoken Presentation.
