2nd Year: Vazquez-Torres Lab
Vazquez-Torres laboratory I study how Salmonella Typhimurium responds to
reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen species, which are a few of our immune
systems best defenses against bacteria.
I focus particularly on a stress response system that is typically
associated with nutritional starvation, but we have found that it is essential
for surviving and adapting to the presence of reactive oxygen and reactive
nitrogen species. I, and other laboratory members, also study how Salmonella
Typhimurium's virulence factors are activated in response to reactive oxygen
and nitrogen species.
