Dr. Mayumi Fujita is a dermatologist who specializes in psoriasis and melanoma.  She is the co-director of the program. She obtained M.D. from Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine in Japan and completed dermatology residency at Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine.  She also obtained PhD in skin immunology at Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine.  Dr. Fujita came to the US to complete Dermatology Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at University of Colorado.  She then repeated an internal medicine internship and a dermatology residency training at University of Washington. 

Dr. Fujita is a co-director of Psoriasis Clinic and has seen psoriasis patients at the University of Colorado Hospital since 2002.  She also works at Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2010.  In her laboratory, she investigates 1) skin inflammation by studying the role of IL-37, an inhibitor of innate inflammation and adaptive immunity, 2) disease biomarkers for diagnosis, prediction of disease activity and treatment response, 3) biology of cancer stem cells in tumorigenesis, progression and therapeutic resistance of melanoma, and 4) biological roles of inflammasome and autoinflammation in the tumor microenvironment.

Dr. Fujita has been awarded research funding from NIH/NCI, NIH/NIAMS, Veterans Affairs, Dermatology Foundation, National Psoriasis Foundation, Melanoma Research Foundation, Skin Cancer Foundation, Wendy Will Case Cancer Fund, Cancer League of Colorado and Interleukin Foundation.

Dr. Fujita is well recognized internationally for her clinical and research efforts. She has trained 42 students/fellows in her research laboratory and has published 65 peer-reviewed clinical and research papers and 4 book chapters in addition to many publications in Japanese (30 essays and 76 papers).
