Professor of Dermatology and Pathology
James E. Fitzpatrick, M.D., is board certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology. He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas in 1976. Dr. Fitzpatrick completed his dermatology residency training at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center and his dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Fitzpatrick served as the dermatology residency director and Chief of Dermatology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center before leaving the military and taking a position in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He currently serves as Co-Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship.
Dr. Fitzpatrick has edited or authored 4 textbooks, 56 chapters and 87 papers. Current research interests include:
- Bullous pemphigoid
- Eosinophil-mediated inflammatory skin disorders
- Extramammary Paget’s disease
- Melanocytic tumors
- Merkel cell carcinoma
