Welcome to Anesthesiology Research


​The Research Division of the Department of Anesthesiology conducts a broad range of clinical and basic science research. The mission of our research is to understand the mechanisms of neurological and he​art disease, pain and anesthetic toxicity. Research in the Department is primarily funded through grants from the National Institutes of Health and non-profit foundations such as the American Heart Association. We have a mix of basic scientists an clinical anesthesiologist working together to address important clinical/translational research questions. Department investigators have a strong record of collaboration amongst investigators within the Department, other departments at University of Colorado Denver and investigators at other institutions.​

Dr. Paco Herson has been awarded a Department of Defense grant for his project titled 'Target and Lead Compound to Reverse TBI-Induced Alzheimer's-Related Dimentia.'
Dr. Nidia Quillinan has been awarded a NIH R01 grant for her project titled 'Excitability and plasticity alterations in a novel cerebellar stroke model.'
Dr. Jelena Klawitter has been awarded a NIH R01 grant for her project titled 'The role of inflammation in the progression of polycystic kidney disease.'
