Malpractice, medical, dental, life and disability insurance are provided at no cost. Medical and dental insurance covers residents and their families.
Vacation time of 15 days/year is provided but may not be carried over from one clinical year to the next. Residents are also allowed five days/year for educational leave. Money is available within departmental funds for travel to meetings.
Regarding time away from the program, the American Board of Anesthesiology stipulates that the total of any and all absences during clinical anesthesia training may not exceed the equivalent of 20 working days per year. This includes illness, maternity leave and Armed Forces reserve duty. Absences in excess of this require extension of residency training. Attendance at scientific meetings, not to exceed 5 working days per year, shall be considered part of the training program.
