Dan Theodorescu, MD, PhD

Bladder Cancer Biology

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Department of Medicine

Must have completed one year of college

Number of openings: 1

Program objectives:

To learn experimental techniques in basic research related to cancer biology

Program description:

Dr. Theodorescu manages an active translational molecular biology lab focused on identifying the molecular mechanisms leading to bladder cancer metastasis and their potential applications to patients with this disease. Our laboratory is at the forefront in the development of biomarkers and therapeutics in bladder cancer.

Our laboratory uses in vitro and in vivo models to study the dynamics of oncogenes identified as promoters of both tumorigenesis and metastasis. Historically this has included the small GTPase Ral in mediating tumor cell motility, a necessary step leading to tumor invasion, and CD24, a cell surface protein whose expression correlates directly with tumorigenic, metastasis, and patient survival.
