Program description:
Dr. Theodorescu
manages an active translational molecular biology lab focused on identifying
the molecular mechanisms leading to bladder cancer metastasis and their
potential applications to patients with this disease. Our laboratory is at the
forefront in the development of biomarkers and therapeutics in bladder cancer.
Our laboratory uses
in vitro and in vivo models to study the dynamics between oncogenes identified
as promoters of tumorigenesis and metastasis including the small GTPase Ral in
mediating tumor cell motility, a necessary step leading to tumor invasion, and CD24,
a cell surface protein whose expression correlates directly with tumorigenic, metastasis,
and patient survival.
