First Step

This is a collaborative program designed and funded by the National Hemophilia Foundation for new families that have a child with a bleeding disorder. The UCHTC and the Hemophilia Society of Colorado provide activities to help these new families learn more about their child’s diagnosis, interact with other families in similar situations and receive advice from veteran parents in their community.

Program topics include hemophilia 101, child safety, managing a trip to the emergency room, health insurance and talking to your child’s school about his/her bleeding disorder. There is an annual summer picnic and quarterly educational/social gatherings.

In addition to families looking to participate in First Step, the UCHTC is currently looking for volunteers to join The First Step committee.  If you are interested in becoming involved in First Step, please contact the UCHTC programming coordinator, Amy Board, at 303-724-2309 or amy.board@ucdenver.edu.
