Letter from Leadership

School of Medicine

Students, faculty and staff:

The University is deeply saddened by the events of Friday morning at the Aurora movie theater.

We recognize the aftermath, with word that the suspect is a former CU student, as being extremely difficult for many of our students, faculty and staff, creating a huge interruption to many of your lives.

We want you to know we are doing all we can to ensure your safety on the campus as well as to provide support with counseling, legal and media services.

Due to the circumstances, please note, University-issued ID badge access will be required in RC1 North and South and RC2 until further notice.

As our University leadership team, Chancellor Don Elliman and Executive Vice Chancellor for the Anschutz Medical Campus Lilly Marks, we invite the entire campus community to meet for an update Monday, July 23, 12 noon at the Education 2 South auditorium on the Aschutz Medical Campus.

Please bring your University-issued ID as we want to make this a University-only update.

A video connection to the meeting for the Denver Campus will be available in the Terrace Room, 2nd floor, Lawrence Street Center.

We recognize this is short notice, but we want to assure you that we are here and available to you.

If you can’t make the campus update Monday, feel free to contact our offices -- Chancellor Elliman at 303-315-7682, or Executive Vice Chancellor Lilly Marks at 303-724-5369. Our assistants will work to connect with you.

We ask your consideration of the overall challenges of this situation. Please know that legal authorities in and outside of the University are recommending against giving media interviews because it is not in best interest of the investigation.

Because the University is cooperating fully with the investigation, our response to media has been limited.

If you are contacted by media, please contact our Executive Director of Media Relations Jacque Montgomery. She is available to support these requests should you wish to decline. Feel free to pass along her information, 303-928-9093.
