School of Medicine Colorado Springs Branch

A Colorado Springs branch became available for the first time for students entering the School of Medicine MD program in August 2014. The branch allows an increase in MD graduates, addressing in part the physician shortage in Colorado and the nation.

The 2014 incoming class increased from 160 to 184 students, and the additional 24 students will receive all of their third-year training in Colorado Springs.

Students in this cohort complete their two-year basic science training on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora and then move to Colorado Springs where they will have the opportunity to work with attending physicians for their initial clinical training at Memorial Hospital and other clinical settings in the Colorado Springs area.

At the time of the secondary application, prospective students are asked to indicate their interest in attending each campus. Applicants interested in being considered for the branch submit an additional essay, and applicants selected for interview hear a formal presentation about the Colorado Springs Branch and are given the opportunity to ask questions in person.

Indicating a preference to attending the branch does not increase or decrease the likelihood of acceptance to the School of Medicine.
