The School of Medicine believes that diversity is a value that is central to the school’s educational, research, service and health care missions.
In supporting that mission, the school strives to develop programs that will attain our vision and goals:
- Promote the academic success of minority students, residents and faculty
- Enhance cultural, bilingual and diversity instruction throughout the curriculum
- Develop educational programs that will help break down ethnic and racial stereotypes and promote cross-cultural understanding;
- Promote a culture of inclusiveness, respect and understanding
- Promote unexplored research agendas and new areas of scholarship related to cultural and racial disparities in health and health care.
Why Diversity? Diversity programs seek to enhance the learning environment for students and residents, advance students, residents, faculty and staff achievements, strengthen the school’s ties to nearby communities, contribute measureable ways to improving the community’s health, decreasing health disparities and increasing health equity.
