In September, 2010, Douglas Jones Jr., MD, became the School of Medicine's Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.
Dean Richard Krugman, MD, has charged Dr. Jones with the task of maintaining and improving clinical practice in the School of Medicine. Dean Krugman is asking for better integration of the school's individually excellent clinical programs to increase our ability to deliver clinical care that is superb, safe and continuously improving at the lowest cost.
Dr. Jones is working to achieve these goals with University of Colorado faculty both on and off the Anschutz Medical Campus and its partner hospitals. In education, he is assisting Dr. Celia Kaye, Professor of Pediatrics and Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, in improving education programs in quality improvement, patient safety and value-driven health care for the many future doctors on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
He also works with Dr. Mark Earnest, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Interprofessional Education, who is developing similar programs with colleagues in the College of Nursing and in the Schools of Pharmacy and Dental Medicine. In research, works with Dr. Chip Ridgway, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Colorado Health Outcomes (COHO) Program, the Colorado School of Public Health and others to help to improve research programs that are so important to outstanding programs in value-driven health care.
Dr. Jones is also a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics. He was Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatrician-in-Chief and L. Joseph Butterfield Chair of Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital from 1990 to 2005. He recently chaired the Dean’s Task Force on Quality Improvement.
