Postdoctoral Periodontics Program

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

Two to three applicants are accepted on an annual basis to the Periodontics Program. Candidates should possess good academic credentials and have demonstrated a definite interest in periodontics. Additional experience before or beyond dental school (internship or residency, military service, private practice, graduate school, etc.) strengthens the applicant's credentials.

A personal site visit and interview are required for the benefit of both the applicant and the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine faculty. Candidates are invited to these in the Fall. Applicants submit a completed application by July 31st of the year prior to starting the residency program.

Academic Performance Evaluation:

This form is to be completed by the Dean of your dental school with your class rank and GPA.

Personal Essay:

An autobiographical sketch of at least 1 page in length to include any previous periodontics experiences and your reasons for desiring periodontics training.

Official Transcripts from ALL Colleges and Universities Attended:

Official transcripts for all college-level coursework must be mailed directly from the colleges to our Program in a sealed institutional envelope. All applicants must have a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school in the United States or Canada. International students will be considered, but evaluation of their credentials is more intricate and they must have a satisfactory TOEFL score, GRE score, and have passed at least Part I of the National Board.

Official GRE Scores:

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is optional, but desirable and adds to an applicant's credentials. It must have been taken within the past 2 years. Scores must be sent directly from GRE. Our institutional code is 7209. Contact the GRE at (609) 771-7670 or http://www.GRE.org.

Official National Board Part I and Part II Scores:

Scores must be sent from the National Board office and will not be accepted if sent by the applicant. Contact the National Board at (312) 440-2678 or get a request form at their website www.ADA.org (click on "Dental Professional", then "Testing Services", then "Educational & Career Resources-Testing Services" then "National Board Transcripts Request Form", then download, fill out and mail to them).

Interview Required:

Personal interviews are by invitation only. Interviews will start on August 15th, and will last one full day. Final selection is anticipated no later than September 1st.
