Local Anesthesia for the Licensed Dental Practitioners

September 28-30, 2018

Our 24-hour course in local anesthesia is designed to comply with the educational requirements of the Rules and Regulations of the Dental Practice Act of Colorado as well as the following *other state boards: MN, MO, ND, OK, OR, SD, WI, WY. Through lecture, demonstration, laboratory, and clinical experiences, participants will learn the management of pain through the administration of local anesthetic agents. You will receive hands-on experience with a live patient on the last day of the course. If you are moving to Colorado, this course is essential for any dental hygienist without prior local anesthesia training. This course is a must for those who are moving to Colorado or for those who have not successfully completed a 24-hour course in local anesthesia, including block anesthesia, as part of your accredited dental hygiene program or in a formal continuing education course by an ADA accredited school.

  • Handbook of Local Anesthesia by Stanley F. Malamed, DDS.  Participants are responsible for purchasing their own copy of the textbook.  Fifth or Sixth Edition of the text is acceptable (the 7th edition is set to publish August 2019).  Prerequisite reading of the text is necessary, prior to the start of the course.
  • Participants must provide copies of the following documentation no later than three (3) weeks prior to the start of the course to be eligible for course participation (please email copies to or fax to 303-724-7059).
            • A copy of your current Dental Hygienist License
            • A copy of your current CPR Certification Card
            • Proof of Malpractice Insurance
  • Participants are required to bring a patient with them on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
            • If you are unable to bring a patient, one may be provided for you at additional cost ($200 cash).
            • Detailed information is sent to participants upon receipt of registration and includes guidelines for types of patients required during the last clinic session.
            • Participants practice local anesthesia injections on each other during the Saturday and Sunday clinic sessions.
            • If you are unable to receive injections due to health reasons (allergies, pregnancy, etc.) please notify us as soon as possible.  If this should occur, you will need a patient to sit-in for you (the other course participants will be injecting the ‘sit-in’ patient you provide).  If you cannot receive the injections, and you cannot provide a “sit-in” patient, we can possibly arrange a patient for you ($800 cash {$200 per session/four sessions}).
