The University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine is proud to welcome a new class of students who are starting their journey of becoming a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Chosen from nearly 1,900 applicants, the Class of 2020 is comprised of 81 talented individuals from a variety of educational backgrounds and fascinating life experiences, including a Walt Disney World Disney Princess, a student who previously lived and worked on a submarine and brothers, seven years apart in age, who are starting dental school together,. Another student also competed on a college wheelchair basketball team, winning three straight national championships and obtaining MVP honors. After being accepted into dental school, he turned down try-outs to go to the Paralympic Games in Rio and contracts to play professional wheelchair basketball in order to pursue his dream of becoming a dentist.
Students participated in a week-long orientation which began with an inspirational message from Dr. Denise Kassebaum, Dean of the CU School of Dental Medicine. “You represent the best and brightest of your generation,” said Kassebaum as she welcomed the students. “And you are the future of the dental profession.”
Orientation week also gave students opportunities to meet upper classmen, a tour of the entire Anschutz Medical Campus, lunch with the faculty and even a fun night cheering on the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Check out Orientation Week Pictures.
To celebrate the
first week of classes, students also joined the school's annual Ice Cream Social, giving them a chance to mingle with their upper classmen,
residents, faculty and staff over hundreds of scoops of ice cream from Magill's World of Ice Cream. Check out the Ice Cream Social Pictures.
Congratulations to the Class of 2020 - we are proud of you!
