The 2015 ASDA Annual Session in Boston was an exciting one for Colorado! After a vote by the ASDA House of Delegates, third year dental student Christian Piers was elected national president of ASDA. He’s the first ASDA president from the CU School of Dental Medicine and now leads a 22,000-member association that represents 90% of dental students nationally. Christian's primary goals are to improve the dental licensure process and decrease the burden of student debt. Read more about his platform online
. He now serves as chair of the ASDA Board of Trustee and spokesperson for the association. If you’d like to read more about how he was elected, visit the Colorado ASDA blog post
written by class of 2017 president, Nikki Kumor.
Kyle Larsen, second year dental student, was elected Trustee of ASDA District 9 and now oversees ASDA chapters at five dental schools—Colorado, Oklahoma, Houston, Baylor and San Antonio. Because he now serves on the ASDA board, Colorado is the only school in the country with two members on the Board of Trustees—another first in school history. Kyle was also awarded Delegate of the Year for District 9.
Chris Klekamp, third year dental student, was elected Legislative Coordinator of District 8 and 9. He will help chapters with their own advocacy campaigns as well as relay licensure information to the members.
At the Gold Crown Awards ceremony, Colorado won five Gold Crown Awards, tying for the most awards won by any ASDA chapter in the nation. (Prior to the Boston meeting, Colorado ASDA had won one award in the past eight years.) You can read more about the Gold Crown Awards—the Academy Awards of student dentistry—in this blog post
