Lend your experience and support to current students

Our alumni are our greatest resource. As alumni you can help others get the most of their education at the Business School. There is an intangible benefit to working with students. By offering your time and expertise, you produce more good will for your company then you could with the best PR campaign. It is an opportunity for you to give back, while getting something in return. Here are some of the ways you can share.

  • We keep a list of alumni who are interested in speaking to classes or clubs.
  • You can also host a site visit, or allow a student to shadow you at work. By inviting students to your business allows them to get an even a better idea of what you do.
  • Mentor a student and help a student learn all the essential keys to success that we can't teach in a classroom.

Become a guest speaker

By offering your expertise, stories from the trenches, and even the day to day requirements of your job, you can help students see the practical application of what they are learning and help them decide if your career path is right for them. Guest speakers round out lectures and in the process students learn about your business and what it offers.

We will be glad to pair you with an appropriate class or club. Check the guest speaker box on the Alumni Association contact form and we will contact you about becoming a guest speaker.

Host a site visit

Inviting students to your business allows them to get an idea of what you do. Students learn about your industry and business. You can share firsthand knowledge of what it is like to work in your industry.

Students leave with a positive feeling about your company and have a better idea of what they need to accomplish to for a career in your field.

A site visit can encompass an office or plant tour, lunch with you, and/or an information session about your business and the industry. It can be organized in many ways.

We will work to find student groups who are interested in visiting you at work. Check the Site visit or shadowing box on the Alumni Association contact form and we will contact you about hosting a site visit or shadowing.

Allow a student to shadow you at work

Shadowing is an intense way for a student to understand your business. Serious students jump at an opportunity to shadow people in their prospective industry. It’s an excellent way to help a student make real world contacts and get an in-depth understanding of your business.

Check the Site visit or shadowing box on the Alumni Association contact form and we will contact you about hosting a site visit or shadowing.

Mentor a student

At its core, mentoring is giving advice. This can grow into a relationship that lasts a lifetime. The process begins with a one hour conversation with a student about what it is like to work in your field and how to get started.

The best mentoring results in your helping the student understand what then need to do to accomplish their career goal, find a job, hit the ground running, negotiate office politics, and succeed at work.

In other words, a mentor helps a student learn all the essential keys to success that we can't teach in a classroom. In the process you build a very strong business relationship.

Check the mentor box on the Alumni Association contact form and we will contact you about becoming a mentor.
