Health Information Technology Specializations


Recently, the healthcare industry his shifted its focus from using proprietary and expensive IT solutions to more innovative IT applications in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other Health Information Technology (HIT) innovations for sharing information effectively to help manage healthcare crisis. The courses within this specialization covers the evolving roles and importance of IT in healthcare industry; the innovative IT applications for delivering healthcare with reduced cost and increased quality; the management of healthcare using effective IT systems; and the security and privacy issues associated with health info​rmation. These courses will focus on how IT enabled health care organizations can integrate information from various resources, in order to deliver innovative IT solutions to meet unique requirements of health care industry.

Common Body of Knowledge (CBK)

If you do not have an AACSB accredited undergraduate or graduate degree in business, you are required to complete at least 12 credit hours in addition to the 30 credits of required and elective courses. These courses provide a general business foundation upon which your graduate information systems degree will be built.

Choose four of the following courses:

  • Fundamentals of Health Information Technology Management,​ HLTH6072

Additional Electives

You need to complete an additional 6 credit hours by completing both:

  • An elective course from an ISMG graduate course or an Internship
  • A free ​elective from any graduate course offered by the Business School, except BUSN courses numbered below 6800
