The specialization is a new offering from the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities. MBA candidates and business professionals should take this specialization for a better understanding of the commodities market in its entirety, from both the physical and financial perspective, including trading operations, investment management, commodities and investment banking. With strong industry support, courses in this specialization are catered to and designed around actual business problems in the commodities sector. Students will have an edge in competing for jobs in the commodity rich sectors of this state.
The MBA with Commodities Specialization
There are two parts to an MBA with a specialization in commodities.
- Your MBA Core Courses which give you the breadth of an MBA degree.
- You will utilize 4 of your electives for Commodities specialization courses which give you tools for a career with commodities related firms.
Commodities specialization includes courses such as:
- Commodity Supply Chain Management
- Financial Derivatives
- Foundations of Commodities
- Trading in Commodity and Financial Markets *
MBA Students specializing in Commodities will also be awarded a certificate in Commodities by the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities.

Students taking this specialization are eligible for multiple
commodities scholarships ranging from $1500 to $5000. Eligibility for
these commodity-specific scholarships requires enrollment in a commodities course (CMDT). Scholarships are not listed on the

J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities
All commodities classes are held at the state of the art J.P. Morgan
Center for Finance and Commodities lab. Through a generous donation from
J.P. Morgan, we have been able to create this lab and furnish it with
the most up-to-date software and technology available.

Internships and Networking
When you opt for the commodities specialization you will have access to
internship opportunities with commodities firms in agriculture, energy,
and minerals/metals. Because the program encompasses all commodities,
the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities
has strong support from many businesses in the Front Range and
throughout the Rocky Mountain region. These companies are eager to lend
their support to the center and provide a pipeline for commodities
students to get experience and become employees in this increasingly
important sector of the local economy.
Multiple networking opportunities exist with executives of commodities
firms. Through field trips, guest speakers and organized networking
events, students have priority access to upper-level management and
hiring managers. Industry leadership in this regard is provided by the
Advisory Council of the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities.
* In the Trading in Commodities
and Financial Markets course you will have hands on experience
in the commodities lab, including Bloomberg Terminals and Morningstar
software. You may be able to acquire
Bloomberg and Morningstar certifications. You may also choose to
participate in the
global CME Trading Challenge, which is a part of the experiential classroom
activity in this course. The lab also provides access to specialized
commodities trading software from CQG and Trading Technologies.
