Jarvis Ryals, MD

​Jarvis D. Ryals, M.D.,FAAN, practiced neurology in Pueblo, Colorado, from 1976 to 2004, when he retired from active practice.  He is a native of Alabama, receiving his B.S. degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1961, and his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham in 1965.  He completed residencies in psychiatry and neurology, a one year fellowship in transcultural psychiatry in Hawaii, and was in Viet Nam for 60 days on the AMA Volunteers-to-Viet-Nam Program in 1970.  He is board certified in both neurology and psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. 

He was on the Pueblo City-County Board of Health from 1980 to 2011, and served as president for several years.  Recently he helped lead the successful campaign for a new building for the health department, completed two years ago. In April, 2012  he was awarded the first Public Health Champion award from the Pueblo City-County Health Department, which will become an annual award to the person chosen for their contributions to public health. He has been a past president of the Pueblo County Medical Society, and served several years as a Pueblo County Delegate to the Colorado Medical Society.
