Practicing the art of medicine requires much more than just scientific
expertise; sustaining a long medical career requires physicians to find
and maintain meaning in their work. Burnout remains high among attending
physicians and trainees. Narrative medicine can bring meaning to the
practice of medicine, mitigate burnout and translate into scholarship. This project seeks to enhance the practice and
prominence of narrative medicine among internal medicine residents,
students and faculty by creating a system of rewards as well as a
pathway for scholarship for this creative work.
