Richard Argys

Senior Instructor, English Education/Urban Community Teacher Education

My story:

I come to the University of Colorado after 24 years teaching English in high school in the Denver area. Reading and writing are central to most of our efforts to learn and to communicate with others, as well as vehicles to enhance our own thinking. I am pleased to further our knowledge and expertise in both areas.

My students at University of Colorado Denver:

Students in my classes are generally serious about their learning, and consistently perform good work. Teaching is one of the most difficult and most important professions in our country, and I particularly enjoy helping new educators as they begin their careers.

Classes I teach at the University of Colorado Denver School of Education & Human Development:

  • Theory and Methods of Teaching Secondary English - LLC/IPTE 5760/4760
  • Writing: Process, Development, Product - LLC/IPTE 5720/4720
  • Adolescent Literature - LLC/IPTE 5740/4740
  • Rhetoric and the Teaching of Writing - English 5093

My research interests:

My work to date is in the areas of professional development for teachers, equitable and realistic school reform K-12, and the teaching of writing.
