267.5° West ‐ Principles of a Turnaround District, P‐20 Education Lecture Series

On Tuesday, September 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Colorado Denver's Lawrence Street Center, 2nd Floor Atrium, Mike Miles, Superintendent of Harrison School District in Colorado Springs, will discuss his stance on improving the teacher evaluation process. Miles contends that teachers currently receive extremely vague performance evaluation forms and instructional feedback from their principals. He believes that improved performance feedback to teachers will improve the quality of instruction to students. Therefore, he is calling for a drastic increase in the number of classroom visits by principals (at least 8 teacher monitoring visits per teacher, per semester.) And, he is mandating improvements to the performance rating system for teachers.Learn how the Harrison School District has responded to Miles’ decisions. And, dialogue with him about other reforms he is considering for the Harrison School District. The lecture is free and open to faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the public. RSVP by September 15, 2009.
