Welcome! The faculty members of the Special Education Program at the University of Colorado Denver’s School of Education & Human Development invite passionate individuals to advance their commitment through teacher education licensure, endorsement and/or master’s degree programs. With decades of experience leading innovation in special education policy, practice and research, our faculty members seek to provide you with the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to effectively support students who have disabilities.
What sets us apart from other programs in the state is our strong commitment to equity through inclusion, access and fairness.
The need for highly qualified special education teachers who are culturally and linguistically responsive is on the rise. In this program, you will engage in the critical and reflective inquiry necessary to enhance teaching and learning for students with exceptional needs. Designed for the increasingly diverse population of students within our community, our curriculum infuses the critical and responsive pedagogy essential for urban and diverse learners. Our teacher candidates learn to partner with others and become leaders who affect systemic change in schools, districts and in the state.
This program also has continuing education master’s level classes that build on one another and can be considered a pathway to certificates, endorsements and degrees. The classes are also available to community members as non-degree students. These classes are taught by expert faculty and influential members of the Denver education community who provide information and skills that are readily applicable and culturally responsive.
