Mathematical Content Knowledge for Teaching Certificate
Are you a math or special
education teacher interested in expanding your practice in math?
Are you a district coordinator
or school leader interested in providing professional development?
The University of Colorado
Denver will be offering a three-course
certificate program focused, first and foremost, on augmenting practicing
teachers’ Mathematical Content Knowledge for Teaching. Each course is organized
to fit teachers at all K-12 school grade levels, including mathematics and
special education teachers. Major themes
for each course are informed by National and State Standards, particularly the
new Colorado Common Core Standards. Each
course will engage the participating teachers in exploring and expanding their
own comprehension of the topics, while examining and increasing their
understanding of how students develop such knowledge.
There are two track options for teachers to choose from: an elementary
focused course sequence and a K-12 course sequence. The elementary track is as
follows: MTED 5619, MTED 5620, then MTED 5622 OR MTED 5623 for a total of three classes. The K-12 track is as
follows: MTED 5621, MTED 5622, and MTED 5623 for a total of three classes.
Each course stands alone; you may want to take one class or all three. Courses may be taken in any order. All credits may be applied toward a UC Denver master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Elementary Math or Secondary Math.
All courses are three graduate credit hours. Tuition for each course is significantly reduced to only $250/credit ($750/course).
