Turn your International Travel into Graduate Credit

CU Denver now offers professional development tours that blend with online courses to provide you with the foundation and support to expand your knowledge and awareness of global education. Come away with a curriculum based upon your travel experiences that incorporate global citizenship into your classroom. We are thrilled to offer professional development tours through our partners, Walking Tree Travel, and through the Office of International Affairs.

Summer Travel

Professional development trips are offered during summer break so travel is convenient for educators. Join us to destinations that focus on social justice issues in education within a current and historical context. Travel qualifies as the second course and includes additional assignments. Professional development travel from other accredited organizations will also be accepted. 

Summer 2016 Trip: Peru 

We are excited to announce the Summer 2016 trip to Peru through our partner, Walking Tree Travel. The trip includes tour directors plus local guides that will facilitate studying historical and contemporary life through a social justice lens within a current and historical context, along with cultural and language experiences. 

Date: June 28 - July 12, 2016 

Approximate tuition and fees: $450 Cost of trip: $3490

Graduate Credit

The certificate is a series of 3 graduate level courses that provide a framework for global competency and application in the classroom. Courses are delivered online and blended with qualifying international travel.


All courses are three graduate credit hours.  Tuition is $359.50/credit, plus student fees of $10/credit, plus $100 online course fee, for a total of $1208.50. Payment plans are available through the CU Denver Bursar's Office. Application is required. For questions, please contact us.


CU Denver is a state university and is fully accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the School of Education & Human Development is accredited through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Related Degree Programs

The Global Education certificate and its courses may translate to a MA in Curriculum and Instruction. It also supplements an emphasis in Global Education for Teach for America MA candidates.

Courses Preferred Sequence & Term Offered
UEDU 5700: Foundations of Global Education & 21st Century Learning
Emphasizes on the development of 21st century skills and teaching core content in a global context.


UEDU 5705: Global Experiential Learning
This course is the travel piece of the certificate. It provides the framework for integrating global awareness into classroom lessons.
If you are traveling with EF, this is the Professional Development tour that includes an online course plus assignments.


UEDU 5710: Global Education Capstone Project
Educators plan a curriculum unit that integrates their experiences abroad and increased content knowledge into engaging, meaningful, standards-aligned lessons.
