Safe & Healthy Schools Summer Institute

Safe & Healthy Schools

June 19-21, 2013

University of Colorado Denver

Safe & Healthy Schools is a summer institute for K-12 teachers, administrators, staff, SRO's, psychologists, counselors, and other advocates for school safety.

Go beyond the perspectives of bullying and physical violence to discover what creates a safe and healthy school environment. Focus on multiple factors such as school climate and community to improve your school’s approach to violence prevention and intervention. Examine frameworks built upon evidence-based practices that have been shown to reduce instances of violence and increase feelings of safety and well-being in schools while increasing engagement and activity in the classroom.

Day 1: Pre-Institute (optional)

PREPaRE Workshop
Franci Creapeau-Hobson, CU Denver School Psychology Professor

Learn how to prepare for school crises by developing, exercising, and evaluating comprehensive safety and crisis plans. Walk away with everything you need to put together a crisis preparedness plan for your school.

Day 2 & 3: Institute

Go outside the school walls to explore and examine individual, relational, institutional and societal influences and impacts on school safety. This customized and practical training will help you assess your school’s climate and its needs. Take this unique opportunity to collaborate with school safety experts and to connect with community resources.
