Each year, in conjunction with campus and community partners, the Center on Domestic Violence holds Love, Sex, Lies: An Intimacy Check-up. About 1000 Auraria students, faculty and staff participate in the two-day event, which screens for relationship abuse and provides counseling.
The event is held for three reasons:
-
It creates greater awareness of issues related to interpersonal violence for the campus community.
-
Students have a more difficult time excelling academically when they’re in an unhealthy relationship.
-
It provides critical resources and counseling to the participants reported having been “hit, kicked or punched” in their current or most recent relationship (about 10%) or say they had experienced sexual violence (about 5%).
