Traditionally, to celebrate Dia de los
Muertos, families will create altars to deceased family members or loved
ones and light candles, offer flowers and sometimes their favorite food
and drink. For this workshop, in recognition of Domestic Violence
Awareness Month, we will be creating altars to represent those parts of ourselves that we feel we have lost as a result of domestic violence, in order to move past and heal from these experiences.
SAIV will provide boxes, basic arts and crafts supplies (paper, glue,
paints/brushes, magazine clippings, scissors, paper flowers, etc.). Feel
free to bring photos, keepsakes, and anything else meaningful to you
that you would like to use in your altar.
