Coverdell Peace Corps Fellow Program Requirements

Required Attachments to Application

As the Coverdell Peace Corps Fellows/USA award rests upon successful placement of applicants in internships, it is necessary for the coordinator, on behalf of SPA, to circulate your résumé and statement to interested community organizations. Community organizations may also request to interview potential candidates, independent of SPA.

Essay of Community Contribution and Internship Interests

In a one-page, single- spaced essay, address the following questions:

  • What is your commitment to the community?

  • What work skills and experience have you developed, primarily in the Peace Corps, that you will bring to an internship experience?

  • What qualities would an ideal internship be like for you?

  • Do you know of any agencies or organizations in the Denver area for which you could see yourself serving an internship?

  • What do you envision your post-SPA career to be?

Final Notes

  • Please notify the UCD/SPA Coverdell Peace Corps Fellows Program Coordinator of your decision to apply and/or enroll at UCD/SPA.

  • Depending on the applicant pool and internship opportunities, the Coordinator may follow up the written application with a phone interview to help assess the best fit.

  • Students who want to be considered for other SPA scholarship funds must independently submit the SPA scholarship application packet by the due date. See

  • Effective August 1, 2006, the Colorado State Legislature passed HB 1023, which requires the University to gather additional information for any student who applies for and receives any form of federal, state or local public benefits, including in-state tuition and merit, need, or other institutional financial assistance through a state institution of higher education. Any student who has not applied for financial aid by filing the FAFSA, or applied for the College Opportunity Fund must also sign an affidavit stating that he/she is lawfully present in the United States and present appropriate identification to the Registrar’s Office in order to receive the benefits. Since the passage of HB 1023 institutional scholarships can only be awarded to international students who are in the US and whose lawful presence can be verified through SAVE.
