Application Process: Degree Programs & Certificate Programs


Degree Programs

Materials required for application to the SPA Masters of Public Affairs (MPA) or Masters of Criminal Justice (MCJ) Program are:

SPA, Graduate Program Application Part I
SPA, Graduate Program Application Part II
Three letters of recommendation
Two official copies of transcripts from all Colleges and Universities attended
Test scores from the GRE, GMAT or LSAT; or approved waiver
Application fee of $50

Additional materials required for application to the Program on Domestic Violence:

An essay of no more than 5 pages that

1. Describes your commitment to the movement to end violence against
women and children by relating your past involvement with anti-violence work in a staff, board and/or volunteer capacity.  Please describe the contribution(s) you have made to the movement, and the benefit(s) you have received from your service.  Please list any coursework you have completed regarding violence against women.

2. Outlines your philosophy regarding organizational management and leadership.  Give a personal example of putting this philosophy into action.

3. Explains your personal beliefs about why women are battered.

4. Describes your vision of how you might be involved in a management, policy or criminal justice capacity within a domestic violence (or related) non profit or public organization in the future (after successfully completing the Program on Domestic Violence).

5. Explains the strengths that you bring and the growth you expect from the Program.

Following receipt of the application materials listed above, the Director of the Program on Domestic Violence will arrange for an interview to be conducted.  Interviews may take place via phone conference for applicants residing outside of the Denver Metro area.

Certificate Programs

Materials required for application to the Certificate in Domestic Violence Studies Program are:

 SPA, Program Application Part I
 Two official copies of transcripts from all Colleges and Universities attended
 Application fee of $50
 Resume (Optional)
 An essay of no more than 5 pages that

Following receipt of all application documents an opportunity will be arranged for the candidate to interview with PDV staff and Advisory Committee representatives.  The interview may be conducted by phone with candidates living outside of the Denver/Metro area.
