Since 2005, faculty and staff from the Center for Worker Health and Environment (CWHE) have partnered with Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), National Jewish Health, University of Colorado Denver, Comprehensive Health Services, and Axion Health, to constitute the National Supplemental Screening Program, or NSSP.

The NSSP is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) "Former Worker Program," which screens former employees of national energy laboratories and nuclear weapons facilities for occupationally-related health conditions, such as chronic respiratory illnesses, hearing loss, kidney or liver disease, and certain cancers. In addition, the NSSP screening identifies other significant health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and lipid disorders affecting employee health.

The National Supplemental Screening Program succeeds in part because of its close connection with CWHE occupational medicine experts. It is the least expensive and among the highest quality medical screening programs offered in the nation.
