Master of Public Health

Maternal and Child Health

Campus | University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora, CO

As a focus area of the Master of Public Health, the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program centers on the study of determinants, mechanisms and systems associated with overall health for women, children and families.  MCH covers a broad spectrum of study from reproductive health, (e.g., family planning, preconception care and perinatal health outcomes) throughout childhood and adolescence. The MPH degree will provide training in MCH prevention programming and evaluation strategies at the global, federal, state and community levels.

The 42 credit hour program is designed for individuals who will manage (plan, execute and evaluate) MCH programs, conduct public health research on MCH issues, or work to affect MCH policy. The program can also be readily customized to professionals who work with children with special health care needs, or who work with MCH populations in low income settings globally.

Program Admission

The Department of Community and Behavioral Health is accepting applications for Fall 2013 enrollment. Standard Colorado School of Public Health admissions processes and requirements apply. Apply online through SOPHAS.org by February 1, 2013. Learn more

Career Opportunities

The MPH degree in maternal and child health will prepare students to define public health needs related to MCH, design public health strategies and programs to address those needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of policies and programs in meeting MCH objectives. Typical worksites for individuals with a MPH degree in MCH include local, state, national, and international public health agencies, non-profit community organizations, foundations, and universities.
