Biography:

Dr. Risendal's research is focused on cancer survivorship with an emphasis on health disparities.  She currently serves as Principal Investigator on a grant to study health and quality of life in long-term colon cancer survivors, and as the lead evaluator for Lance Armstrong Center of Excellence in Cancer Survivorship at the University of Colorado Cancer Center.  Promoting physical activity and other health-related behavior interventions after cancer among underserved populations is a particular area of interest.  Dr. Risendal also serves on national and state projects related to patient navigation, including both training and research.

  • Current Research Projects:
  • Lance Armstrong Foundation: " Center of Excellence in Cancer Survivorship" (01/01/06 - 12/31/11, Co-Director):The activities of the center will include implementation of a novel telephone counseling program, coordination of research activities in survivorship issues, and outreach to 3 partnering hospitals to further improve survivorship resources in Colorado.
  • CDPHE: "Reducing the Impact of Cancer through Exercise" (7/1/08 - 6/30/11, Principal Investigator): The overall goal of this project is to reduce the burden of cancer and improve the survivorship experience by promoting the adoption of an exercise/wellness program among survivors in Colorado.
  • American Cancer Society: " Quality of Life and Health Behavior in Long-term (1/1/09 - 12/31/11, Principal Investigator): This study will follow participants in an NCI-funded registry of colon cancer survivors and controls in order to study quality of life, depression, fatigue, and health-related behavior.
