  • CDC: "Center of Excellence in Eliminating Health Disparities (CEED)" (Program Evaluator):  The goals of CEED are to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among urban American Indians and Alaska Natives.  The project employs multiple methods, including:  (1) training urban Indian health program staff on the Honoring the Gift of Heart Health curriculum developed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute with the goal of reducing CVD in the Native population; (2) educating patients directly about CVD and heart-healthy living;  and (3) working with Native organizations to improve access to healthy food options, physical activity opportunities, and CVD-related educational resources among urban American Indians and Alaska Natives.
  • National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research; "Center for Native Oral Health Research (CNOHR)" (Co-Investigator):  CNOHR conducts research to develop effective behavioral strategies for reducing the high burden of dental disease in Native communities, emphasizing reduction of oral health problems in early childhood.
  • "Understanding and Promoting Health Literacy" (Principal Investigator): With the goal of clarifying the impact of health literacy on CVD risk and health behavior change among Native people, the proposed project is designed to test a theoretical model of health literacy.
