MPH/DVM Program

The Colorado School of Public Health offers a joint MPH/DVM with the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS). 

Students must apply to the MPH Program and the DVM program. Find more information about the MPH/DVM program on the MPH/DVM website.

MD/MPH Program

Joint degree students pursue the MPH between years 3 and 4 of their medical education.  The program requires an official leave of absence from SOM. The leave lasts three consecutive semesters (summer, fall, spring). During official leave medical school loan obligations will be waived.  Students are assessed public health tuition rates for CSPH courses taken in completion of the joint degree.  Rates are published under Cost of Attendance

MURP/MPH Program

Students must apply and be accepted to both the MPH and MURP programs separately.  The application deadline for the MPH program is January 5.  Information regarding application requirements can be found below.  

The application deadline for the MURP program is October 1 and February 15.  MURP admissions requirements and application information can be found at http://architectureplanning.ucdenver.edu.

MPH Admissions Requirements and Process

Admissions Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA in undergraduate coursework and any subsequent academic coursework. If the GPA is below a 3.0, applicant should include an explanation of why it fell below a 3.0 and how the applicant plans to address any prior academic deficiencies as a graduate student. Students admitted to the MPH program with an undergraduate GPA below a 3.0 will be admitted on a provisional basis.
  • Official GRE scores While we do not currently have a minimum score requirement, the average scores of the accepted applicants for the Fall 2010 semester were: 520 Verbal, 620 Quantitative, 4.2 Analytical Writing. The MCAT, DAT, LSAT, PCAT or GMAT may be substituted for the GRE. If the applicant holds a Master’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution, the GRE may be waived.
  • An essay that addresses career goals and purpose for study, approximately two pages, single spaced in length. The essay should describe past experience as it relates to the applicant’s interest in public health, career goals, purpose for applying to the program, and how the program will serve future goals
  • Completed applications and submitted documentation including essay, CV/resume, test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation and all other materials listed below
Admissions Process and Instructions

To apply for admission to the Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH) Master of Public Health joint degree programs, an applicant is required to follow the two-step process outlined below.  Please note, applicants may be required to apply to the other joint degree program separately and should check the specific application requirements of that program, as well.


Step 1 | CSPH Application

You are required to first complete the online CSPH supplemental application in its entirety.  (Joint degree applicants are not required to complete the SOPHAS application)  All new Cedar Crestone Application users must register. Be sure to apply using your CSPH first choice degree, campus, and concentration. You will have the opportunity to designate a second choice campus and concentration using the MPH Second Choice of Home Campus and Concentration Supplemental Form inthe document upload section.  

  • An application fee is required ($50 domestic applicants, $75 international applicants)
  • Letters of recommendation will be uploaded by your recommender directly to this application system.
  • Upload Career Goals and Purpose for Study Essay, CV, MPH Second Choice of Home Campus and Concentration Form, Tuition Classification Form (PC-Compatible only), and Criminal History Supplemental Form (if applicable) in the "Document Upload" section of the application.
  • TOEFL scores, if applicable, should be sent to institution code 4877.
  • WES or ECE course by course evaluations, if applicable, should be sent to Colorado School of Public health GRE Code 7844.
  • Official transcripts for joint degree applicants should be sent directly to the Colorado School of Public Health at the following address:

Step 2 | Obtain Your CSPH ID

Upon completion of the CSPH Application, you will be redirected to an Application Summary screen. Locate your (9)-digit "Empl ID" (this is your student ID) on the summary screen under your name. 

Print a copy of the summary screen and record your ID for future use.

You will not be able to access your ID or login without your ID, once you close the application.

 


Additional Notes 

International Students

Submit official TOEFL Scores. Applicants whose native language is not English or who have not earned a degree in the United States must submit TOEFL scores earned within two years preceding the desired term of entry.  Minimum score required: 550-paper; 213-computer; 80-Internet. TOEFL code: 5688

Transcripts from non-US institutions need to be verified by the World Education Services (WES) or Education Credential Evaluators (ECE) and submitted directly to the Colorado School of Public Health. A course-by-course transcript evaluation is required. 

Financial Statement. Admitted international applicants must submit official proof of funding for at least one year of tuition, fees, and living expenses and an official request for I-20 form to CSPH.

 

All application documents must be received by the posted deadline, so we recommend that international applicants begin the application process well in advance of the deadline. 

Official Test Scores

Exceptions to Official Test Scores: completed graduate level degree from an accredited U.S. institution OR successful completion of the CSPH Certificate of Public Health Sciences program with a 3.0 or higher GPA.

Alternatives to the GRE: DAT, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT or PCAT

Review Process

All application materials must be received by the CSPH by the posted application deadline. 

    Upon receiving a completed application and supporting documents, the application will be considered ready for review. The CSPH Admissions Committee will review the application after the posted application deadline. Following review, a decision will be made regarding the application status.  Applicants will receive notification of the decision via e-mail by mid-March.
