NIH (NHLBI): “Impaired Angiogenic Signaling in
BPD” The major
goal of this project is to identify biomarkers of BPD and genetic variations in
VEGF-NO pathway genes that are associated with the development of BPD in
“The Microbiome in Premature Infants at Risk for Bronchopulmonary
Dysplasia” The goal of this project is to serially evaluate the
airway microbiome from birth through the first weeks of life in mechanically
ventilated preterm infants. We will examine how the early acquisition of
bacteria, including potentially novel pathogens, interacts with the developing
immune response to alter lung development and the risk of bronchopulmonary
dysplasia (BPD), the chronic lung disease of prematurity.
