Senior Professional Research Assistant

Harry Smith, MPH

Research Interests

I mainly work with "-omics" data including micro-array, RNA-Seq, and metabolites. I am also interested in Gene Network Analysis and its related methods development.

Current Research

I am currently working on investigating the genetic effects that influence metabolic function in brown adipose tissue using a recombinant inbred rat panel. I am also investigating the impact of transcriptome reconstruction in RNA-Seq analysis pipelines.

Education

  • Master's of Public Health in Applied Biostatistics

What makes you passionate about or interested in biostatistics?

I am interested in biostatistics as well as the bioinformatics of "-omic" data because it is a new technology with the potential for big impact. Network analysis is largely hypothesis generating now, but as the methods become more developed and more refine, it may lead to a greater understanding of how our genetic interactions influence disease.
