Leadership Transition

From founding dean forward

Open Doors | From Founding Dean Forward
UPDATE: CU Denver Provost Roderick Nairn announced David Goff, MD, PhD as the next dean of the Colorado School of Public Health.

In 2007, CU Denver Chancellor Emeritus M. Roy Wilson appointed Richard F. Hamman, MD, DrPH as founding dean of the Colorado School of Public Health.  Since then Dr. Hamman committed his role as dean to seeing the school successfully open and receive accreditation as the first and only school of public health in the Rocky Mountain West.

The timing of accreditation presents Dr. Hamman and our school with the chance to move in new directions.  On December 31, 2010 Dr. Hamman stepped down as dean in order to return to full time teaching and research within the Department of Epidemiology.

His decision to step down as dean comes with full confidence in the school’s existing leadership.  The school has a strong and committed team of associate deans, institutional and center directors, department chairs, and administrators. Together with the support of the school’s broader community, the Colorado School of Public Health will continue to develop new initiatives and relationships with partners in public health teaching, research and practice.

Recently the school initiated a strategic planning process in order to define future strategic goals.  The leadership transition is a natural component to this process, providing a fresh perspective and leadership style to the school's ongoing development.

CU Denver Provost Nairn named associate dean Judith Albino, PhD as interim dean.  In efforts to keep the leadership transition transparent, Dr. Albino and school administration will work with CU Denver, CSU and UNC leaders to maintain open communication throughout the transition process.

On March 27, 2012, following an extensive national search and selection process, Provost Nairn named David Goff, MD, PhD as the school's next dean, effective June 1, 2012.
