PhD Comprehensive Examination Information:

After completing or registering for all program-required nonthesis coursework, and concurrently with applying for admission to candidacy for the PhD, students must take a comprehensive examination in their respective discipline. This examination (written or oral or both) will test a student’s mastery of a broad field of knowledge, not merely the formal coursework which he/she has completed. This examination must be completed no later than the end of the student’s third year. Individual programs may establish an earlier deadline. Instructions and deadlines for completion of the forms are provided in the links below.

Bookbinding

While the University no longer requires students to submit a paper version of their thesis, there still may be a need to bind paper versions for your personal use. This information has been provided as a service to address this need. The University does not recommend any specific bindery. You are free to use any binding company you wish. Denver Bookbinding Company is the vendor used by the HSC Library. Should you wish to use them for your personal thesis copies, or for more information contact http://www.DenverBook.com. The pricing on their web page does not reflect an average of 10% discount given to UC Denver Anschutz Medical Campus students. When placing your order, just request the AMC pricing. The discount is on the binding pricing only, not on the extra charge pricing. Denver Bookbinding also has the ability to print your thesis from a PDF file on 28 pound acid free paper for $.10 per page/side in black and white. Color printing is offered for an additional charge per page. Please contact Denver Bookbinding for additional information.
