Thesis & Dissertation - Electronic Submission


Electronically submitted theses and dissertations are subject to the specifications and requirements outlined in the Style and Policy Manual for Thesis and Dissertations Thesis submitted that do not comply with these standards will be returned for editing and may delay a student’s graduation.

FORMAT REVIEW

All students are required to have a “precheck” of their thesis or dissertation with the Graduate School.  Prechecks are generally scheduled a couple of days prior to your thesis defense date, however, students are encouraged to call well in advance to schedule their precheck appointment as the calendar for these appointments fills up quickly.  Contact the CU-Anschutz Graduate School Office at 303-724-2911 to schedule your precheck appointment.  You will need to bring a copy of your thesis and the “Statement of Approval of the Thesis” page with you to the precheck. 

FINAL SUBMISSION

Your final thesis or dissertation must be submitted by the published deadline in order to graduate in that semester.  Submission of your thesis includes all documents submitted to the Graduate School as well as the submission of the thesis to ProQuest/UMI by the published deadline.  Please familiarize yourself with the required process and deadlines prior to the semester you plan to graduate (see deadline calendar).

Thesis Submitted to ProQuest/UMI: (thesis must be submitted to the UMI by the published deadline for your graduation, and at the same time you submit the documents below to the Graduate School):

  1. Submit your thesis/dissertation electronically to ProQuest/UMI through the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) submission website by the published deadline date of your graduating term. Step-by-step instructions for the electronic submission process are provided at the ProQuest/UMI website.
  2. ProQuest/UMI automatically sends you an e-mail confirming your thesis/dissertation submission.
  3. ProQuest/UMI notifies the Graduate School of the submission.
  4. The Graduate School verifies that the submission meets Graduate School standards.
  5. If necessary, the Graduate School will notify you of any additional changes or corrections you need to make to the thesis.  Once resolved, you will be notified by ProQuest/UMI that your submission is accepted.
  6. If no changes/corrections are necessary, the Graduate School will notify you and ProQuest/UMI that the submission is accepted.

Documents Submitted to the Graduate School: (documents must be submitted to the Graduate School by the published deadline for your graduation, and at the same time you submit your thesis to UMI):

PhD Students

  1. Complete the Survey of Earned Doctorates and print the certificate at the end of the survey.  You will be submitting the certificate only.
  2. Printed email “Confirmation of your participation in our survey” from the PhD Exit Survey.
