Bio
Alejandro is in his first year as an NSF-funded IGERT fellow in the Sustainable Urban Infrastructure program. He is pursuing an MS and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver. Originally from Colombia he started his studies at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, and earned a Bachelors of Science – Magna Cum Laude - in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Prior to joining the IGERT program, Alejandro worked professionally as a Structural Engineer at Contech Bridge and as a Project Intern for Opus Northwest in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Headquaters 8 Building in Denver.
Research
Alejandro’s preliminary research focuses in the implementation of sustainable urban infrastructure systems in transportation planning and management for mega events, including Olympics and Soccer World Cup, and how the events are related to the long-term goals of the cities. Alejandro also is interested in studying how to develop and implement optimal world class Bus Rapid Transit systems for US conditions.
Non-research highlights
Alejandro was recently elected as Student Chapter Vice-President for the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). In his free time, Alejandro is a soccer fanatic, player and coach.
