Device Design and Entrepreneurship Track

Entrepreneurship (focusing on commercialization of medical technologies)

This area emphasizes highly non-traditional work in that its primary goal is the commercialization of a novel biomedical technology, device or application developed by the student. Students in this track will have bioengineering, clinical, and business co-mentors. Students will spend substantial time learning and applying strategies for starting up biomedical technology companies. This area is applicable to students interested in starting up biomedical technology companies. This specialization also takes advantage of the presence of the School of Medicine at the UC-Denver campus, as well as the Fitzsimmons Bioscience Park on the Anschutz Medical Campus, and is thus a unique component of the UC-Denver Bioengineering program.

MS degree in Bioengineering (2 year program, 30 credit hours total)

Year 1: Bioengineering Core (18 credit hours) at the Anschutz Medical Campus

Year 2: Choose Electives for the following Tracks:

  • Biomedical Device Design and Entrepreneurship, with internships at local biomedical device companies or in clinical programs
  • Clinical Imaging, with internships at clinical imaging laboratories at University of Colorado Hospital and The Children's Hospital
  • Research with opportunities to apply engineering to solve problems at multiple clinical and biomedical laboratories on the Anschutz Medical Campus

All students in Bioengineering take the Bioengineering Core Courses. This intensive curriculum is designed to give all students a strong foundation in both engineering and biological principles.
