Overview

Dr. J. Kenneth Ortega manages an active NSF funded research program in growth, water transport, and membrane transport in algal, fungal and plant cells.

Projects

  1. Sole PI -An investigation of biophysical variables and metabolism in wild type and mutant sporangiophores of Phycomyces blakesleeanus. NSF funded 2007-2010
  2. Sole PI -An investigation of biophysical variables in stiff and hypertropic mutant sporangiophores of Phycomyces blakesleeanus. NSF funded 2010-2013

Laboratory

Located in NC2205 the Bioengineering Laboratory has been active since 1984 and was given “laboratory status” by the University of Colorado Denver in 1993. The bioengineering laboratory is considered one of the best pressure-probe laboratories in the world.
