Continuing students will receive an invitation to register via email from the Registrar's office. You can check your registration time assignment on your student portal in UCDAccess. It is recommended that you register as soon as possible, as classes fill up quickly. You can also check your student portal for any holds (e.g., advance registration deposit, advising, past-due amounts, etc.) that may be preventing you from registering.
New freshmen and transfer students are required to meet with an advisor prior to registering the first time:
- New freshmen starting for fall are required to attend Orientation, it is optional for freshmen starting in the spring. The afternoon session of orientation will include your initial meeting with a CLAS advisor.
- Transfer students are also invited to attend Orientation, but you may call the academic advising office to make an appointment: (303) 556-2555.
You register for classes using the student-portal system, UCD Access. See course registration page for step-by-step instructions.
Always check the course description to make sure that you meet the prerequisites (i.e., another class, foundation of knowledge, or class standing -- such as junior/ senior -- may be required before you can register for the class).
You are allowed to take a maximum of 18 credits in spring and fall, and a maximum of 12 credits in the summer. Requests for an overload (taking more than the maximum allowed) must be approved by your academic advisor and are based on specific criteria (such as GPA, enrollment history/success). You should consider your obligations inside and outside school to help you decide whether requesting an overload is a good idea.
If your plan is to graduate in four years, then you need to complete 30 credits a year. You can divide this in a variety of ways. For example, you can take 15 credits in fall and spring; 12 credits in fall and spring, and 6 credits in the summer; etc.
If you are still on the waitlist after the first week of classes, you will be added to the class roster automatically if seats are available. Waitlisted students are added on a first-come, first-served basis (i.e., by your number on the waitlist). Check your waitlist/enrollment status regularly through census date: if you have been admitted to a class and you do not want to remain in the class you must drop the class by deadline. If you do not drop the class you will be required to pay for the class and may end up receiving an F on your transcript.
It is very important for you to attend all classes you are waitlisted for and hope to be admitted to. If you are not attending and are admitted you don’t get behind in the.
Check your UCDAccess Student Center. Click on the "Enroll" tab to see if your status has changed from "waitlist" to "enrolled." You can also print out a new class schedule.
Once you've registered, any changes you make are considered drop/add. Please pay attention to the drop/add deadlines in the Academic Calendar as not following them can negatively impact your enrollment, GPA, etc. Late adds/drops/withdrawals may require a petition. Please see your academic advisor if you have questions about these processes.
Students who do not have access tot he UCD Portal can look for class availability on-line here.
The math class you choose may depend upon your major. Talk to your advisor about what math class to take and visit the Math Placement and Testing page of the CLAS website.
