Hamilton Bean is Director of the International Studies program at the University of Colorado Denver, a position he was elected to in May, 2015 after serving as a member of the program’s Steering Committee. In addition, he serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Communication where he specializes in research at the intersection of international and homeland security, organization, and communication. Since 2005, he has been affiliated with the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence based at the University of Maryland. He is also an Adjunct Fellow at the American Security Project. Hamilton has had an international career as an educator, living and working in Japan (1996-1997) and China (repeatedly from 2011 to present). As a contractor in the U.S. defense and intelligence sector (2001-2005), Hamilton worked with noted national security officials and experts. He has written about his experiences in his first book, No More Secrets: Open Source Information and the Reshaping of U.S. Intelligence (Praeger, 2011). His research has been published in an number of international journals and edited volumes including All Azimuth, Intelligence and National Security, International Communication Gazette, International Journal of Intelligence and CounterIntelligence, Management Communication Quarterly, and Rhetoric & Public Affairs. He has won multiple awards for scholarship from the National Communication Association.
