Sociology Welcomes Two New Faculty
- Sociology is pleased to welcome two new faculty members beginning Spring 2014. Dr. Keith Guzik joins us as a tenured Associate Professor. Keith has a PhD in sociology from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and has been a faculty member at Bloomfield College in New Jersey for the past 7 years. Dr. Guzik’s general interests are in the increasing presence of surveillance in contemporary society, the intersection of technology and law, and theories of power and social control. His recent research, which was supported by an NSF grant, focuses on security in the global context, with a particular focus on the use of surveillance technologies to combat crime in Mexico’s War on Crime.
- Kari Alexander defended her dissertation in sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder in early January. She joins the Sociology Department as an Instructor who will have primary undergraduate and graduate-level teaching assignments in the research methods and statistics areas. Kari has been co-author on research articles addressing stressful events among teens and young adults and consequences for their health behavior and depression. Her teaching interests also extend to the areas of Sociology of religion and death and dying.
