Bio

My research interests have been focused on the following areas:
1. Socio-cultural aspects in the development of mathematics attitudes and achievement among middle grade students and their teachers. In particular, I examined how a European American, middle class teacher influenced the development of his culturally diverse students’ attitudes towards mathematics and the potential effects on their achievement.

2. Mentoring graduate teaching assistants. Highlighting topics of concern that range from managing instruction and graduate coursework to balancing home, teaching, and junior researcher roles, searching for jobs, and learning about potential responsibilities as future faculty members.

3. Innovative projects and improvements to the teaching and learning of mathematics for pre- and in-service teachers.
